Grandparent’s Mass and Morning Tea

Thank you to all those who were able to attend the Mass and morning tea. The role of grandparents in our school community is visible during school drop-off and pick-up and then there is all the things they do away from school to help the students and families. It is amazing that we have so many grandparents who attended St Michael’s and children who are 3rd generation students of our school. Thank you to Mrs Welch, Mrs Richards, Mrs Gallagher and Miss Riolo for organising the morning.

Term 3 Mass

Our first Mass next term will be in Week 2 on Wednesday 31st July. We invite the school community to join the students to celebrate the Year 6 Mass. The next Mass will be the Year 5 Mass in Week 4.

Firefighter visit

On Monday, the Pre-primary and Year 3 classes were visited by the local fire brigade and firetruck. The students learned about creating Home Safety Fire Plans and how the firefighters use specialised equipment to combat fires and attend to accidents. Special thanks to St Michael’s parent, Mr Brad Roberts, for providing this learning opportunity for students.

Year 5 “Sew a Softie”

Our Year 5 class engaged in the “Sew a Softie” initiative for their first Art project this year as part of the February ‘Global Kids Sewing Party’. This project aims to raise children’s awareness of the community by getting them to sew a softie and give it away.

The very talented Year 5’s took on the challenge of creating a Noongar animal softie, learning more about our local Noongar culture and some useful sewing tips along the way! The beautiful assortment of soft toys was then sent with an accompanying letter to the remote Aboriginal school of Birlirr Ngawiyiwu, Ringer Soak in the northeast Kimberley. The children were delighted to receive their gifts and were able to send a letter of thanks back to our children. A lovely display of kindness, skill and generosity from our Year 5 class! Well done!

Thank you to Mrs Helen Shanahan for co-ordinating.

NAIDOC Week Activities

This week we have been learning about and acknowledging the Aboriginal culture through various in-class activities and by working together to colour in a whole school NAIDOC display. Some of our classwork is now on display in reception.
