Science Week Activities

To celebrate National Science Week staff and students had opportunities to engage in some extra-curricular activities with scientific learning and inquiry this week.

On Monday, students in Years 1-6 attended an incursion all about experiments that changed the world. Staff and students participated in three performances in the areas of Biology, Physics and Chemistry called ‘The Super Science Circus Show’ with Jared from School Performance Tours. Students were able to experience practical demonstrations of how water is created, Newton’s law of motion is enacted and how animals adapt to their environments.

On Tuesday, students participated in science activities during lunchtime experimenting with air movement using bubbles in the Junior Primary and paper planes in the Upper Primary.

On Wednesday staff attended a professional learning event after school led by Mrs Jennifer Doven and Michelle Lloyd (CEWA Science Consultant) to support hands-on Science instruction across K-6. Thanks to Mrs Doven for organising and leading this professional learning session for staff

Pre-Primary Class Reward Day

The Pre-primary class dressed to impress this Wednesday as part of their class reward system. Pirates, sharks, mermaids and all sorts of underwater and ocean-themed creatures were celebrating their learning achievements together. Well done PP!

Angelico Exhibition Awards Night

Congratulations to Veronica J who was awarded Highly Commended for her etching “Botanical Beauty” at Tuesday night’s Angelico Exhibition Awards Night. This annual exhibition showcases the best artworks from Catholic Schools in WA, and St Michael’s has been very proud to receive an award every year since the Primary category was introduced. Well done to all our hard working and very talented artists, and especially to Veronica! She was also a member of the winning Primary Group category for the recent Aboriginal Art Catholic Competition and was runner-up for our local NAIDOC billboard competition!
