Swimming Trials and Swim Carnival

During the week, students in Years 3-6 participated in swimming trials in preparation for the swimming carnival on Friday March 13th. Thank you to the parents who were able to help on Tuesday. Miss B is still chasing a few more helpers for the carnival. Please email Miss B nat.brescacin@cewa.edu.au if you are able to help for any part of the day on Friday 13th March.

Ash Wednesday Mass and Year 4 Mass

Thank you to the Year 6 class for leading the Ash Wednesday Mass. The students read beautifully. We invite the school community to join us at 9am on Wednesday 11th March for the Year 4 Mass.

Hello, Parents! This week on Tuesday we had the Shrove Tuesday pancake race. The Year 4s and Casa Mia Montessori school met on the BIC to race. All the Year 4s and Casa Mia students got a free pancake after the race. We interviewed some Casa Mia students taking part and they said, “It was a lot of fun, we really enjoyed having the race and it was good to have pancakes after the race because you always feel a little hungry after running.”

Also, on Tuesday, the Year 3s to Year 6s went to their swimming trials. The swimming trials took place at Bayswater Waves. The Year 3 to 6 students all got their scores and will all be participating in the swimming carnival taking place on the 13th March.  We hope that the Year 3s enjoyed their first swimming trials.

On Wednesday, the Year 6 class lead the Ash Wednesday Mass for St Michael’s. Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer and fasting. The day before Ash Wednesday is called Shrove Tuesday, or pancake Tuesday. On Shrove Tuesday, we use most of our sugary things and junk food. It is also about telling people we are sorry, and that we are not perfect. Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent and is the start of the 40 days before Jesus’ crucifixion. Why do we celebrate Ash Wednesday?

  • It is a holy day of obligation
  • It is the start of lent
  • When we come forward to receive a cross of ashes, we are saying we are sorry for our sins, and that during lent we want to correct our faults

Reminder to parents do not forget about the pupil free days on Friday the 28th February and the 2nd March.
