Professor Maths Incursion

On Monday this week, the Year 1-6 students participated in a Mathematics incursion led by ‘Professor Maths’ in the school library. It was an energetic and interactive, hands-on learning opportunity where children had to work in small groups to solve a variety of problems together. If they managed to solve 2 problems successfully, they wore glasses, for 4 correct solutions they wore a vest and for 6 solutions they transformed into professors with the addition of an Einstein wig! There was lots of excited conversation about ways to tackle difficult numeracy problems and student and staff feedback was very positive.

Mercy Day

On Wednesday this week, we acknowledged and celebrated our school’s Mercy tradition and heritage. The Year 3 class assisted with Mass including a tableau of students who reverently represented each Mercy value: faith, truth, service and compassion. Well done to all the Year 3 students and to Mrs Saunders and Mrs Thompson for preparing the children. Big thanks to Mrs Albert for leading the choir, Mrs Vassiliou for organising the creation of our large MERCY letters for the altar display, and to Mrs Stewart for arranging the wonderful final touches onto the illustrated circles completed by all students. The Year 3 children did a wonderful job.

Two Year 7 students from Mercedes College visited St Michael’s to share a presentation with our Year 4-6 students about how they enact the Mercy values in a secondary school setting. Head of the Religious Education Learning Area, Mrs Gill Lugton, and Deputy Principal Mrs Susan MacDonald led the students through a reflection activity writing words that reminded them of our Catholic tradition on rocks, symbolising the strength of our faith and power of service to others. Thank you to our visitors for a wonderful learning opportunity.

Uniform

Next term we move to the Summer Uniform. As usual, we have a fortnight’s grace as students purchase new items after a winter of growing. Listening to the feedback from parents, ordering through https://quickcliq.com.au/ is a smooth process to purchase new uniforms. For those who need to try on sizes or see what is available in the used item tubs, the uniform shop is open with Tania on Tuesday and Friday mornings (8.30 to 9.15am). Whether it be a new or used item, can you please make sure the item is marked with your child’s name.
