Parish Sacraments and Fr Son’s 20th Anniversary Priesthood

On Sunday 13th December, St Joseph’s parish will be celebrating the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation with candidates from the parish. Some of the children receiving First Eucharist and being Confirmed are present and past St Michael’s students. Families include Shanahan, Bown, Baxter, Knezovic and Mukherjee. Please keep these families in your prayers.

Also on the 13th December, Fr Son will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of his Ordination. We are fortunate that Fr Son’s vocation called him to priesthood and that we have him as our parish priest. A party will be held after the mass in the hall and guests are asked to bring a share plate of food.

Shade Sails

Entering the school through the office, visitors are now greeted by colourful sails providing shade over the junior play area. After the installation on Tuesday, we have had a noticeable increase of students using the climbing equipment under the shade of the sails. Thank you to the parent community for raising funds to support the school and to the Parents and Friends Committee for this great initiative of providing a SunSmart playground. Thank you to Perth Shade Sails for the installation.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming, swimming in the swimming pool,

When days are hot, when days are cold, in the swimming pool…

Students from Preprimary to Year 6 have been attending swimming lessons at Bayswater Waves to improve their swimming skills and knowledge of water safety. This week has been a little different to previous years with cooler temperatures early in the week meaning entering the water was a bit more of a challenge. Well done to the students on their efforts in such a busy and tiring week. Thank you to Miss Brescacin for organising.

Year 6 Dinner Dance

On Wednesday evening, the Year 6 students wowed the audience with the moves during the Dinner Dance. The parents did amazing, turning the hall into a venue fit for the occasion. After many years of guiding our Year 6 students, Kevin Perrin has stepped back from teaching dancing and we had a new dance teacher, Rosa Filipello. Guests were treated to an upbeat evening with a number of dances by the students and an opportunity to dance with the children. As the students conclude their time at St Michael’s, it was a beautiful occasion to celebrate the confident and supportive young adults these children are becoming. Liam P spoke beautifully at the end of the evening, sharing how the children have grown during their time at St Michael’s and he perfectly summarised the enormous efforts of their Year 6 teacher, Mrs Turner, in supporting them this year and coordinating events, such as this. Thank you to the Year 5 parents for providing food for the guests and serving during the evening and to all the staff who helped make it such a wonderful night. A final mention to Funky Balloons for donating the balloons which added to the magic of the students’ entrance and Lara Trusso for the cake and cookies!

Vinnies Christmas Appeal

A massive thank you to the St Michael’s Community for your donations to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. Through your generosity, we will be able to donate 23 boxes to families in need during Christmas. This is well in excess of our original goal of 10 boxes!

Book Sale

A reminder that on Wednesday, Year 4 will be running a book sale with the books that families have donated. Books will be selling for $1 each and the money going to those in need this Christmas through Vinnies.
