AEGIS

This week the Year 6 students went along to Aegis Aged Care to visit the residents. The students enjoyed the experience, talking with different residents.  Christy, who was recently awarded excellence in the Performing Arts, played the violin to the pleased audience. Next class going over will be the Year 5.

Athletics Carnival

Wednesday saw all of St Michael’s travel to Ern Clark Athletics Track to participate in our Athletics Carnival. There was a lot of nervous energy around, not only from the students ready to run but from the staff as we continued to monitor the moody weather. As we boarded the buses, there were patches of blue sky and kids were ready to go. The students were giving it their all on the track and the juniors were having a blast in their team games. A check of the radar through the morning signified rain was on the way. Modification of the schedule saw us complete the relays and all track events. The buses were called and we completed some team games while we waited. The students returning to school boarded the buses and left the cold wet track. This afternoon, the school converged on the B.I. to cheer each other on as we finished the team games and presented the champion athletes and faction. A big thank you to Miss Brescacin for all her efforts in organising the event; a huge task. Thank you to the parents for your assistance. Without your support these events would not be possible. And finally, thank you to the staff for encouraging, supporting, applying first aid, supervising bays and helping all the students.

Incursion

On Monday afternoon, Kindy to Year 6 attended an incursion in the hall. The incursion was about a treasure hunt. The main characters were from rival lands. George, from one land, lost the Song of the Forest and Jessica, from the other land, lost the song of the sea. They both thought the other land had taken their songs. They both set out on their journeys and ended up crossing paths. Once they got to know each other, they realised that the other country hadn’t stole their song and wasn’t so bad. They came together and worked as team. On their maps they had clues that connected to books that lead them to find their songs!

Father’s Day Morning

This morning we had great fun at the Father’s Day activities morning. There were a range of activities for students and their dads, grandads and others to participate in such as shooting hoops, hopscotch, throw and catch, dad jokes and finally tug of war. It was a great contest between the two sides but we may need to go to the judges after looking at the photo evidence.

When the bell went, students went to class while the guests had a hot drink and some breakfast provided by the school canteen and helpers. Shortly after, everyone gathered in the hall for a special assembly performance by the Year 1 and Year 2 classes. It was great to see so many parents stay and watch the wonderful performance.

Thank you to Mrs Marzo, Mrs Griffiths and Miss Brescacin (who has had a busy week) for organizing the activities and the assembly and to Mrs Ford in the canteen for the delicious food.
