Message from the Principal – Newsletter 03

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Dear Parents and Caregivers

A reminder that our P & F welcome event is on this evening at the Bassendean Outdoor Cinemas (on the BIC). Doors open at 6.15pm and the movie (Mary Poppins Returns) commences at 7.45pm.  For those who have prepaid, your name will be on a list at the door and tickets will be sold at the door for those who have not yet paid.  We hope to see you all there!

Important Stranger Danger Reminder

We have had an unconfirmed report about a possible stranger danger concern after school yesterday. All classes have had a stranger danger reminder at school today, but please take the time to reinforce the stranger danger message at home (e.g. never get into a car with a stranger, let someone in your network know immediately if you have an encounter with a stranger that makes you feel uncomfortable). Thank you for your support with this.

2019 Board Members

On Monday night our first board meeting for the year was held and our executive positions were finalised. Our board members and roles for this year are:

  • Kara Collins – Chairperson
  • Dave Parsons – Deputy Chairperson
  • Sue Criniti – Treasurer
  • Amanda Versace – Secretary
  • Daniel Stefanelli
  • Elliot Brannen
  • Jacqueline Wilson – P & F Representative

We thank all our board members for their generosity of time and spirit!

P & F – Urgent Call for a President

Our first P & F meeting for 2019 was held on Monday night.   Thank you to Melissa Maiolo who volunteered as Secretary and to Rebecca Dwyer who will continue on as Treasurer! Unfortunately, we were unable to find a President nor a fundraising coordinator. We are now issuing an urgent call for volunteers.  Our P & F organise wonderful community events and raise important funds to purchase school resources.  It would be a terrible shame if our P & F were unable to operate this year due to us not being able to fill these important roles. A summary of these two roles is provided below. Please give serious consideration to putting your hand up for these positions as we are now in dire need!

P & F President

The President chairs each meeting and acts as a liaison between P & F members and committees and is a contact point for the P & F.  We encourage the president to be a good delegator and act in a co-ordination role rather than taking on the jobs themselves.

There is a possibility for a President and Vice President to work together to share this role. Please feel free to nominate with a friend who you work well with or we can organise for an individual to work as the Vice President to shadow a more experienced P & F member as President.

Fundraising Co-ordinator

We already have three people on the fundraising committee and would love for more people to join this group. The group organises 3 – 4 events throughout the year and can gather help from other parents who may not have a specific role on the P & F.  We require a coordinator to delegate and communicate to ensure that volunteers can smoothly organise events.

Our P & F cannot operate without these two important roles so please give this serious thought and contact me if you are interested or would like further clarification.

Thank you to our 2019  P & F Class reps:

  • Kindy – Melissa Maiolo
  • Pre-Primary – Indria Silva
  • Year 1 – Lorraine Burton
  • Year 2 – Renee Zaffino
  • Year 3 – Laura Blanchard
  • Year 4 – Mel Todd
  • Year 5 – Sarah Desmond
  • Year 6 – Kim Partington

At the P & F meeting, we were able to confirm the final figure raised from last year’s Walkathon.  $6440 was raised which will be donated back to the school in the form of resources. An amazing achievement! Thank you to the co-ordinators and to all who participated.

Our next P & F meeting will be on Monday 18 March at 7.30pm in the staff room.

OSH Club

The OSH club which operates in our hall provides a fantastic service to families who require before and after school hours care.  However, they can only continue to offer a viable service if they are supported by St. Michael’s parents.  Please feel free to pop in and speak to Wendy at the OSH club (in the hall) to find out more!

Bricks4Kidz Robotics Club

The after school robotics club was a huge hit on Monday afternoon. The children had a ball. If you are interested please book your child in using this link:

 https://www.bricks4kidz.com.au/perth-gosnells/program-events/after-school-programs-lego-bricks.

The club runs on Mondays from 3.30 – 5pm in the library. This is run separately from the school program. St. Michael’s students who are without parent supervision between 3.00 – 3.30pm are asked to go straight to the library after school where they will be supervised by the Bricks4Kidz co-ordinators.

Kindy 2020 – Enrolments now open

Enrolments for Kindy in 2020 are now open and we will be conducting interviews early in Term 2. Please spread the word and if you have a child who is eligible for Kindy next year, please see reception for an enrolment form. Siblings of St. Michael’s students are given preference, however, we do still need an enrolment form completed. We currently have waiting lists and numerous enrolments already for Kindy in 2020.  We don’t want any siblings to miss out on a place because we weren’t aware of them so please don’t forget to hand in your enrolment form!

I have had wonderful feedback from numerous new students and families about how well they are settling into St. Michael’s.   Thank you for all you are doing to make our new community members feel welcomed and for the support you provide for each other every day! It truly warms my heart!

God bless.

Principal

Reflection:

In his new apostolic exhortation ‘Gaudete et Exsultate’, Pope Francis tells us that we do not need to be a bishop, a priest or a religious to be holy. We are called to be holy by living our lives with love and following the example of Jesus.
Are you married? Be holy by loving and caring for your spouse.
Do you work for a living? Be holy by working with skill and integrity in the service of others.
Are you a parent or grandparent? Be holy by patiently teaching children about how to live like Jesus.
Are you in a position of authority? Be holy by working for the common good of others.
