Message from the Principal – Newsletter 21

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope that you all enjoyed the holiday period and have returned feeling rested and energised!

This semester we welcome back Mrs Louell Renzullo who is now working full time to cover Mrs Del Murray’s long service leave. Sadly, over the holidays, Mr David Caddy had an unfortunate accident whilst following his passion for surfing. He is off work for the foreseeable future, and we thank Mrs Jane Forsey who has very kindly agreed to fill in for David until he is able to return to work. Please keep David in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. We are currently in the process of finding a replacement for Miss Lisa Wilson. We thank Mrs Liza Grazia who is covering this position in the interim.

Leadership Team Offsite Next Week

On Monday next week the Assistant Principals and I are attending the CEWA Leaders Forum. I will then be at the Catholic Primary Principals’ Association (CPPA) conference in Joondalup from Tuesday to Thursday. Assistant Principals have been invited to day 1 of our conference and, as a result, Jemima and Ryan will also be offsite on Tuesday. In our absence, Mrs Marina Thompson will be acting Principal on Monday and Tuesday and Mr Ryan Powles will be acting Principal on Wednesday and Thursday.

Recent Staff Professional Development

On our student free day on Monday, staff participated in professional learning on digital technologies. Junior primary staff working with Jemima Saunders learning how to use the SeeSaw program and middle and upper primary staff worked with Gabrielle Trinca (CEWA Digital Learning Consultant) on the technologies curriculum and using Micro:bits. We also provided staff time to complete a CEWA online refresher course on Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting.

100 Days of School

The Year One staff and students looked fantastic today as they dressed up as 100 year olds to celebrate 100 days of school. They have been counting how many days we have been at school this year as they learn to count to 100. A reminder that we have the Year 1 class assembly on Friday next week. We would love for you all to join us!

Catholic Performing Arts Festival

2019 is the 30th anniversary of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival where students from Catholic schools across the state have the opportunity to showcase artistic performances through a variety of art mediums such as dance, music, speech and song. Yesterday, Alexander. J., Veronica, J. and Layla, G. (Year 6 students) and myself attended the Catholic Performing Arts Festival Opening Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral where we participated in a beautiful liturgy celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe. The liturgy which was punctuated with magnificent artistic expressions of faith by various Catholic schools such as a dramatised Gospel reading, a liturgical movement and hymns led by both a band and choir. At the conclusion of the Mass, Dr Debra Sayce, CEWA Executive Director, opened this year’s festival and acknowledged the importance of the arts in education to allow students to express both their faith and creativity as well as enhancing their artistic gifts and talents.

Best wishes for a fantastic term ahead!

God bless

Dr Siobhan Galos
Principal
