Message from the Principal – Newsletter 34

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I hope you are all managing to keep cool in this hot weather!

Acknowledgements

Thank you to the Town of Bassendean who allowed our Year 3 – 6 students to participate in their Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday and to Mr Rob Coughlan for co-ordinating our involvement. Congratulations to Mia Stefanelli who wrote a very thoughtful speech which she delivered at the ceremony and to all the students who participated so reverently. A copy of Mia’s speech can be found in the Assistant Principals’ section of this newsletter.

Thank you to all our volunteers who attended the Volunteers Morning Tea today and to Neala Welsh, Nicola Gallagher and Jo Richards for co-ordinating a beautiful event! We are so blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers in our school, who take time out of their busy schedules to support staff and students and make the school a better place to be! We couldn’t offer all that we do without you and we certainly wouldn’t have the lovely school climate that we do without your hard efforts and generosity! From all of the staff, thank you!

Upcoming Events – Walk to School Day/AGM/Free Dress Day

Don’t forget to attend our AGM at 6pm on Monday night (18th November) in the hall and please remember to walk to school on Monday to be included in our pedestrian crossing count! Thank you to Jac Wilson for co-ordinating this initiative with the aim to gather data to allow us to have a lollipop crossing at Guildford Rd to enhance student safety!

On Friday (22nd November) we will be having a free dress day to raise money for SchoolAid who are supporting the victims of recent fires across Australia. SchoolAid is aiming to provide an outlet for our young people to take positive and tangible action towards helping people and communities recover from these devastating events. In addition to the lives and livelihoods that are threatened, the property losses, animal injuries and environmental damage, our young people witnessing the devastation are also impacted. Getting involved in a campaign gives young people a positive outlet and focus to counter the distressing images of burnt homes and animals on the news. We will be asking for a gold coin donation, or if yiu would like to make a more substantial donation, you can do so via the following link:  https://schoolaidtrust.com/project/schoolaid-bush-fire-appeal. Through non-government agencies, principals’ associations and government, SchoolAid will ensure funds are used to support those in most need of assistance. SchoolAid’s bushfire recovery appeal has the support of the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) and the Australian Catholic Primary Principals Association (ACPPA).

A reminder that the uniform shop will be closed on Tuesday next week.

Have a terrific weekend!

Dr Siobhan Galos
Principal
