Message from the Principal – Newsletter 19

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It is wild to think back one term ago, the staff were out the front of the school fare-welling students for the Easter break. There was an uncertainty about what the future held. Businesses were closing, restrictions were being imposed and there was a sense Term 2 education was going to be online. Today we made a huge step towards normality with our first school event- the Cross Country. In Western Australia, there is a sense of hope and the light at the end of the tunnel seems near. Our thoughts are with the large numbers of people in countries around the world who continue to be affected by COVID-19, losing jobs, losing loved ones and losing hope. We continue to pray for the scientists working on a vaccine, that they find a solution and put an end to the suffering being experienced by so many.

Congratulations to all our runners in the St Michael’s Cross Country. We were able to celebrate the achievements of our strong runners and the efforts made by all students to push themselves and try their best. I was so proud of the students who ran the whole track without stopping. Thank you to Miss Brescacin for coordinating the event and the weather holding out. Shout out to the parent helpers as well for making the event possible.

This has been a constantly changing term and our staff, students and families have continued to be adaptable and supportive. Towards the end of the usual term, people can get tired. I have encouraged the staff and students to focus on remaining resilient, bouncing back from challenges, and tolerant, keeping calm and not over-reacting to differences with others. Please help the children for this last week by reinforcing these messages.

Families have adjusted well to the morning drop-off procedures and it has now become the norm. To keep the process flowing smoothly, could parents please drive forward as far as possible to use the space and allow more cars. During pick-up and drop-off, please use the area marked No Stopping. I have highlighted the available drop-off and pick-up space and circled the no stopping area that can be used during this time.

A reminder that reports will be available through Seqta Engage on the afternoon of Wednesday 1 July.  A text will be sent notify parents that the reports are live. Emails have been sent to registered users with a link to provision your account. Please contact the office if you have not received the email and wish to register.

For those who students and families who have started their sports, good luck for this weekend. Have a great weekend and we will see everyone back ready for the last week of term.
