Message from the Principal – Newsletter 33

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Thank you to everyone who participated in various ways during Wellness Week and to Lisa Mueller and the staff wellness committee for organising the various initiatives that took place this week. Our thanks also go to Tracey Anthony for running children’s yoga yesterday. I hope you all managed to use this quieter week to find time both as an individual and as a family to take care of your physical and mental health.

Thank you to the P & F for organising our Walkathon today and to everyone who raised sponsorship money. The funds raised will go to our P & F who ultimately donate this back to the school in the form of various resources. Well done to the students who put in a magnificent effort walking in this warmer weather.

Thank you also to everyone who donated to our Wheelchairs for Kids fundraiser. Brother Ollie and one of his volunteers visited the students on Monday and brought one of their wheelchairs to show us. Each wheelchair costs $200 to manufacture and we were thrilled to raise $506.16 for this wonderful charity. This will be enough to fund 2 and half wheelchairs which will change the life outcomes of the children who receive them. Congratulations and thank you for your generosity! For more information or to make a private donation go to: https://wheelchairsforkids.org

School Banking Co-ordinator Required for 2021

We are in need of a co-ordinator for school banking in 2021, otherwise this initiative will be unable to continue. If you are interested, please contact the school office.

Relaxation to Phase 4

On 19 October 2020 the Premier announced that Phase 4 of the WA COVID-19 Roadmap would be modified and extended. This modification includes the relaxation of the two square metre rule for some venues, effective from Saturday 24 October 2020. These changes are designed to support performing arts and live music venues. They apply to ticketed venues with fixed seating.

As such, the two square metre rule continues to apply to school facilities, including school halls, gymnasiums, meeting rooms and staff rooms. As previously, direction regarding the use of churches and parish facilities will be provided by the Bishops of Western Australia. We are currently awaiting instruction from the Archbishop regarding the use of the church and what impact this may have on Masses for the remainder of the 2020 school year.

Confirmation

A reminder that our Confirmation Parent Workshop is being held this coming Monday evening (2 November) at 5pm. Please be aware that, as part of the parish preparation program, it is compulsory that at least one parent or caregiver attend for each child who is being confirmed.

As our Year 6 students prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation (on Sunday 8 November), please keep them in your prayers.

World Teachers’ Day

Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we acknowledge our wonderful teachers at St. Michael’s! We are so blessed to have a group of dedicated, passionate, caring, talented, hard-working and professional teachers who nurture and educate our students. For all you do each and every day, words are not enough, but simply…..THANK YOU!

Have a terrific weekend!

God bless
