Message from the Principal – Newsletter 26

Dear Parents,

Performing Arts Festival

Congratulations to Mr Caddy and the Year 4 class who were our final performers at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival this week. Their choral speech item was sensational and was written by Mr Caddy and the students themselves! I was amazed at their creativity, thought provoking message and engaging performance skills. The adjudicator was very impressed and we received notification yesterday that they have been awarded an Outstanding Award. An amazing achievement!

Students Not Returning in 2019

Planning for 2019 is underway so we ask that any parents of students who will not be returning to St Michaels in 2019 (other than the current Year 6 students) to please inform reception or myself in writing by the end of this term. Please keep in mind that we are currently in the enviable position of having a waiting list for enrolments at our school, hence, if you know of anyone wanting to join our community, please encourage them to get their children’s names on our list asap.

New Reception Art Work

Our reception area has been given a new splash of colour thanks to a collaboration with the talented students of Prendiville College. The school was seeking a vibrant and welcoming entrance which acknowledged the school’s long history within the community, having celebrated its centenary in 2014.

Prendiville students in the Year 11/12 FlexEd Programme designed and created four glass discs, each representing one of the four houses at St Michael’s School: Morahan, Kelleher, McAuley and Mercy. The art works are symbolic and historical representations of the school’s Mercy heritage and the works of Catherine McAuley as well as an acknowledgement of key figures in the school’s history. They also show subtle reference to the original custodians of our land and to St. Michael’s location by the Swan River.

We are thrilled with the results and thank Mr Mark Antulov, Mrs Lynn Vroombout, Mr Leandro Martins and the students of Prendiville Catholic College for their professional work and their visual interpretation. The collaboration between the two schools is an example of the wonderful possibilities of schools working together within our Catholic system. Thank you also to Mrs Lisa Liebregts and Mrs Helen Shanahan for their involvement in this project.

Acknowledgements

Thank to Miss Nat Brescacin for co-ordinating such a great athletics carnival on Wednesday. It was a shame we couldn’t complete the event due to inclement weather but we were thrilled to get through as many events as we did. Thank you also to the wonderful parents who helped out on the day – we couldn’t hold events such as this without you!

Thank you to Laura Marzo, Bethany Griffiths and Nat Brescacin for co-ordinating our Fathers’ Day event this year and to Linda Ford for the catering. We wish all the father’s and grandfather’s in our community a wonderful day on Sunday – thank you for all you do to support your families and our school community!
