Straight from the Chair

Not sure how we have reached the End of Term 1 so quickly, but here we are.

I trust that you and your family have had a great start to the year. There have certainly been a lot of activities for the kids to be inspired by already.

I am most grateful to spend my last year in the St Michaels community as Chairperson of the Board for the 4th consecutive year. I look forward to working with our existing and new board members for a productive 2019.

Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any board member if you have any queries regarding how the board works or suggestions of things you would like considered. Although as a board we do not get involved in the day to day school operations, our role is to provide strategic and financial direction for the school.

It is an exciting time for the school with a new leadership team at the helm, With Dr Galos and Mrs Saunders joining Mr Powles, it will be a challenge for this team to fully understand all that makes the St Michael’s School a success and the attributes that have seen us have such a strong and healthy sense of community over many decades.  To build on these attributes and successes with their new ideas and strategies is an exciting opportunity but one that comes with great responsibility.

As always we have seen our wonderful P&F creative and active, as a community we were fortunate to commence the year with a locally held school social event at the Night Outdoor Movies. It is a real credit to the current and previous committees that they continue to raise substantial funds for our school whilst creating great events for students and families.

May you and your family enjoy a well earnt break over the upcoming holidays, stay safe and we can all look forward as we prepare for a busy and successful Term 2!

School Board Chairperson

Absence Calls / Notes / Emails

Please note, teachers do not get to sit down and check their emails first thing in the morning, so if you have emailed the teacher regarding your child’s absence, they may not receive the information until later in the day. Therefore, please do not be upset if you receive an SMS or phone call from the Office to clarify the absence.

For this reason, a phone call to the ABSENTEE LINE is a more efficient way of communicating an absence than an email. Please note also, a SIGNED NOTE also needs to be provided to the teacher on your child’s return to school. The Department of Education Services has confirmed that whilst an SMS or phone message is NOT a substitute for a signed note when reporting absences, an email meeting the following criteria can be accepted:

  • the full name of the student
  • the class / roll group of the student
  • the reason for the absence
  • the full name of the parent/guardian at the end of the message (the ‘from’ email address is not sufficient).
