Library Book Borrowing Information for Term 3

Just a reminder that for:

Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 the last day to borrow books for this term is:

Tuesday 10th September, 2019

We’d be very grateful if all the books borrowed by Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students are returned before the end of term.

Our thanks

Your Library Volunteers

Late Arrivals to School

Please note, if your children are late to school (ie arrive after 8:40am), they must be signed in at the Office. Otherwise they will show as absent on the roll. Thank you.

Absence Calls/Notes/Emails

Please note, after an absence a SIGNED NOTE needs to be provided to the teacher on your child’s return to school. The Department of Education Services has confirmed that whilst an SMS or phone message is NOT a substitute for a signed note when reporting absences, an email meeting the following criteria can be accepted:

  • FULL name of the student
  • CLASS / roll group of the student
  • Date
  • Reason for the absence
  • FULL NAME of the PARENT/GUARDIAN at the end of the message (the ‘from’ email address is not sufficient).

Please send emails meeting the above criteria to:  admin@stmichaelsbass.wa.edu.au or fill in the online absentee form on the Connected app.

Please note, teachers do not get to sit down and check their emails first thing in the morning, so if you have emailed the teacher regarding your child’s absence, they may not receive the information until later in the day. Therefore, please do not be upset if you receive an SMS or phone call from the Office to clarify the absence. For this reason, a phone call to the ABSENTEE LINE 6278 9802 is a more efficient way of communicating an absence than an email to the class teacher.

School Banking

What would you do with $5,000 to spend at school?

We have the potential to raise over $5,000 a year for St Michaels, but to reach that figure we need everyone to do a little bit.

It doesn’t cost you anything. In fact, you can save money while you are raising money!

All you need to do is open a Commonwealth Bank student savings account and then make a deposit each week through the school banking system.

It doesn’t matter how much you deposit; We just need ‘a’ deposit.

We raise money based on:

1) Every 10 deposits made per child

2) The number of students who make at least one deposit per year

Last year we raised over $1,000 through School Banking, but this year we have seen a 35% drop in participation rates which will be reflected in the funds we raise for our P&F.

If you are interested in receiving a weekly reminder from Renee, please send her a text on the number below.

There is still time to make a contribution this year and to get primed and ready for next year.

Contact Renee at reneebarker@live.com.au or on 0439 965 378 if you have any questions or would like to help with school banking (ad hoc volunteers are very welcome!

Body Confident Children and Teens for Parents

With so many confusing messages around weight, food and health and with many adults struggling with their own body image it can be difficult for parents to know how to support their child as they move through adolescence. Join the Butterfly Foundation for a relaxed and informative seminar for carers to give knowledge, information and practical tips to help you better understand and promote positive body image in the home.

Topics covered include:

  • Background on body image and the importance of prevention
  • Key influences on body confidence, including social media
  • Importance of role modelling positive body image and healthy behaviours
  • Reducing appearance based talk and handling ‘stuff’ they say
  • Awareness around behaviours that increase or decrease body satisfaction
  • Referral and support information
  • Please note this session does not cover fussy eaters

The Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s largest charity supporting those affected by eating disorders and negative body image and provides education workshops to young people, professionals and parents.
