Absence Calls / Notes / Emails

Please note, teachers do not get to sit down and check their emails first thing in the morning, so if you have emailed the teacher regarding your child’s absence, they may not receive the information until later in the day. Therefore, please do not be upset if you receive an SMS or phone call from the Office to clarify the absence.

For this reason, a phone call to the ABSENTEE LINE is a more efficient way of communicating an absence than an email. Please note also, a SIGNED NOTE also needs to be provided to the teacher on your child’s return to school. The Department of Education Services has confirmed that whilst an SMS or phone message is NOT a substitute for a signed note when reporting absences, an email meeting the following criteria can be accepted:

  • the full name of the student
  • the class / roll group of the student
  • the reason for the absence
  • the full name of the parent/guardian at the end of the message (the ‘from’ email address is not sufficient).

The St Michaels Fathering Project

BUNNING SAUSAGE SIZZLE SAT 25th AUGUST – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Earlier this year the St Michaels Fathering Project group were lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to hold a sausage sizzle fund raiser at the new Bunnings Bayswater store on Saturday August 25th.  We are looking for more volunteers to do one or two hour shifts between 9am and 4pm.  If you’ve got experience behind a BBQ or running one of these events your help would be appreciated.  Or if you don’t have experience you can definitely help serving up snaggers or taking peoples money.  As this is a Fathering Project event we want the kids involved too. Under 16yo’s wont be able to cook but can certainly help out in other ways.  Of course this can also include kids that are no longer at St Michaels too.  After all spending more time with the kids is always a good thing and there’s plenty of lessons to be learnt ?

The funds raised will go towards a significant, yet to be confirmed, St Michaels Dads and Kids event later in the year.  Please let us know by email (FatheringProject@h4s.co) or mobile (0413999905) if you think you could give us an hour or two of your time.  Places are filling up so to get your preferred time slot get in early.

WHAT IS THE FATHERING PROJECT?

For those of you who are not familiar with the Fathering Project it’s a national program and St Michaels has a group who are a part of their Schools Program.  The easiest way to explain it is to pinch a statement from their website:

“The Fathering Project aims to improve child development outcomes by inspiring and equipping fathers and father figures to engage positively with their kids.
We know that an effective father has a profound impact on the kids, thus it is of great importance to establish Fathers and Father Figures that  interact with their children as effective as possible. We seek to make better dads for the benefit of the children.
Our Vision is to ensure every child in Australia has an effective father or father figure.”

NEXT MEETING:

We have started a regular catch-up for Dads which at the moment is one Wednesday night and one Friday night a month.  The next two catch ups are at the Basso Hotel next Friday 24th at 7.30pm and Wednesday the 5th Sep.  I’ll also put details in the school newsletter and on the Connected App (if you don’t have the Connected app I highly recommend downloading it for keeping up to date on school activities. You can download here for iPhone: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/connected/id1182941318?mt=8 or here for Android phones: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.theconnected Just choose St Michaels School Bassendean, password is Truth1914 and under Settings choose the categories you’d like to get alerts for)

MORE CHAMPION DADS NEEDED:

I’m also on the lookout for 4-5 Champion Dads to assist in sharing the load in organising event and catch-ups.  This is DEFINITELY not too time consuming.  Maybe 1-2 hours a month or even less with more Dads onboard.  If you’re keen, we can catch up next week to discuss (see above or email me as below)
