Message from the Principal – Newsletter 31

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Thank you to everyone who took part in Wellness Week and particularly to those who made an effort to do some wellness activities or actions at home. Thank you to Mrs Lisa Mueller for co-ordinating the initiative and Mrs Tracey Anthony for facilitating yoga for the students. It has been a great week of focusing on being kind to ourselves and putting our own health and wellbeing first. Have a peek at the end of my section for some yoga pics!

Fees Due Next Week

A reminder that school fees are due next week. Please contact reception to arrange final payment.

Walkathon

Don’t forget to collect sponsorship from family and friends this weekend for Monday’s walkathon! The P & F are raising money to put towards our spare parts storage units which will also serve as playground seating. More information can be found in the P & F section of this newsletter.

Parking

Both myself and some parents have been concerned by a number of parents not following our pickup routine on James St. On one day alone, I witnessed six parents stopping in the bus bay and calling to their children to cross the road on their own.

Can I please remind parents of our drive through routine:

  • Our pickup line is designed to be a moving line. Please join the line of cars and wait for your turn. There is room in the bays marked in orange for around 4 cars to pick up students.
  • Once the first four cars have picked up students, they move on and the next four move up.
  • Please don’t skip the queue and drive up to the first bay – this is dangerous for students and often stops the flow of traffic.
  • Students are not permitted to walk down to the roundabout to jump in their car. There is no supervision provided in this area and this can hold up the moving line of traffic.
  • Please do not use the school driveway to turn around as this can endanger students, please drive down to the roundabout.
  • Please don’t stand and talk to drivers in the pickup area as this holds everyone else up.
  • Please do not stop in the bus bay and call your students over to your car. This is a no stopping zone and this is very dangerous for students to cross the road on their own.
  • Any parents collecting students should cross the road and collect their child, please do not call them from across the road as all students need to be escorted across James St with an adult.

These rules and routines are put in place for student safety which is of paramount importance. The duty teacher is on duty to supervise students, not act as a traffic warden. Please note that the ranger is currently having a blitz on schools in the area and has been watching our traffic this week and giving verbal warnings. We would hate for any of our parents to receive a fine! Please work with us to keep your children safe. If you do not wish to wait in the queue, I recommend arriving a few minutes later to miss the traffic!

Road Closure 31st October

The Old Perth Road Collective are organising a halloween event, Spookfest, from 4pm on Old Perth Road on 31st October. As a result, there will be a road closure on Old Perth Road from Hamilton Street through to Whitfield Street from 1pm on that date. Access along Hamilton road itself will not be affected, however, please allow some extra time for pick up on that date due to any congestion that the road closure may cause.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Wheelchairs for Kids – our free dress day today raised $352.40.

Have a terrific weekend!
